Child Safety & Teen Protection

Last updated: July 6, 2026

Keeping young people safe is a first-order priority at BuzzThat. This page describes our standards against child sexual abuse and exploitation (CSAE), the protections we apply to teen members, and how anyone can report a concern.

1. Zero tolerance for CSAE

We have zero tolerance for child sexual abuse and exploitation. Content, messages, or behavior that sexualizes, endangers, or exploits a minor is strictly prohibited and will be removed. We will suspend or ban the accounts involved, preserve relevant evidence, and report apparent child sexual abuse material (CSAM) to the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children (NCMEC) and cooperate with law enforcement as required by law.

2. Minimum age

You must be at least 13 years old to create an account. We ask for date of birth at sign-up and block registration for anyone under 13. We do not knowingly allow children under 13 on the Service; if we learn of such an account, we remove it and delete the associated data.

3. Protections for teen members (13–17)

  • No precise location. We do not store a precise home location for a minor — only a coarse city/area — and we never broadcast a minor's real-time location (for example, they don't appear in "who's out now" presence features).
  • Friends-only messaging. A minor can only be direct-messaged by people they are friends with. Strangers cannot message a minor or send them a message request, and cannot add a minor to a group chat.
  • Reduced data collection. We minimize the personal data we collect and keep for minors to what's needed to provide the Service safely.

4. Prohibited conduct

Regardless of age, the following are never allowed on BuzzThat:

  • Any sexual content involving, or sexualization of, a minor.
  • Grooming, solicitation, or attempting to arrange offline contact with a minor.
  • Sharing a minor's private information or location, or threatening/harassing a minor.

5. How to report

If you see content or behavior that puts a young person at risk, please report it right away:

  • Use the 🚩 Report control on any post, comment, message, or profile.
  • Email our safety team at [email protected].
  • If a child is in immediate danger, contact your local emergency services first. In the U.S. you can also report to the NCMEC CyberTipline or call 1-800-843-5678.

6. How we respond

Reports involving a minor's safety are prioritized. We review them promptly, remove violating content, take action on the accounts involved (including suspension or permanent ban), preserve evidence, and escalate to NCMEC and/or law enforcement where appropriate. We designate staff responsible for child safety and review these standards regularly.

7. For parents & guardians

If you believe your child under 13 has created an account, or you have a concern about a teen's account, contact [email protected] and we will help.

8. Contact
