Solana is targeting August 17 for Agave v4.2, the first phase of Alpenglow โ the biggest consensus overhaul in the network's history. It replaces Proof of History and Tower BFT with a new protocol cutting transaction finality from roughly 12.8 seconds down to 100-150 milliseconds, a near-100x improvement. It also removes bulky onchain vote transactions, freeing bandwidth for regular users. SOL has been trading in the $74-$77 range, well off January highs, but Alpenglow is a genuine technical leap.
