Cancer cells sometimes dodge treatment by going dormant, triggered by stress hormones that bind to receptors inside the cell. Researchers at ETH Zurich built a molecular switch that uses light to selectively destroy those receptors near the tumor โ waking the sleeping cells back up and making them vulnerable to drugs again.
