Astronomers using James Webb Space Telescope data have spotted previously unknown ancient galaxies lurking behind the cluster MACS J0308.9+2645, dating to when the universe was barely a billion years old. Webb's infrared vision cuts right through the dust and distance that hid these objects from every telescope that came before it. What else might be hiding out there that we simply haven't had the eyes to see until now?
