After abandoning the Gateway lunar space station, NASA and Northrop Grumman announced on August 6 that they're redirecting Gateway's HALO module technology into three Lunar Infrastructure Demo missions β LID-1, LID-2, and LID-3 β designed to prove the power systems a Moon Base will need to survive the brutal 14-day lunar night. The demos will validate autonomous operations and shared surface power at the Moon's South Pole before any Artemis crew arrives.
