๐ญ Only the 3rd interstellar object ever detected โ and China's Mars orbiter got the closest look yet
Comet 3I/ATLAS, only the third object ever confirmed to have traveled into our solar system from interstellar space, was imaged this week by China's Tianwen-1 Mars orbiter from roughly 30 million km away. The photos reveal its glowing coma and streaming tail as 3I/ATLAS raced past Mars on its wild journey through our cosmic neighborhood. First spotted in July 2025, it has since looped around the Sun and is now heading back out past Jupiter and into the void.
