Webb spotted a bizarre ancient object called MoM-BH*-1 from just 660 million years after the Big Bang β something that looks like an enormous star but shines 100 billion times brighter than any star could. Astronomers think it's a 'black hole star' β a black hole about 100,000 times the Sun's mass wrapped inside a dense hydrogen cocoon roughly the size of our solar system. Published in Nature on August 12, it may be the first confirmed member of a class of objects previously only theoretical.
